Here is what Jeaunes has to say about herself:

"There is not a lot to say about myself and usually it is the most difficult part, to write about you,

but I will give it a go.

I am 28 years old and have been married for three years, this past February, to a very loving and supportive husband (especially when it comes to my hobby). I am an economist by day and a scrapbooker by night. I am a HUGE animal lover, but more specifically a cat lover. I have 2 cats named Zorro and Gobbelina. Gobbelina is the older one and Zorro is my little baby, which I love to bits and even though he is a cat a spoil him rotten!

I love taking pictures, and I can never take enough, I will always take hundreds of pictures at an event or an outing, or even if we just go to the movies, I have to take a picture and it has to be scrapbooked. I am one of those that people say to “Not another photo”. But in the end, the picture and the memory is all you have left of an event and the memory may fade but the photo will never.

I started scrapbooking at the age of 19, during my first year at varsity. So it is now almost 10 years. And I cannot believe how scrapbooking has changed from then to now.

I love the transformation that scrapbooking does to a picture. It gives the picture new dimension. No matter if it is the ugliest or prettiest photo, the moment it is placed on the right paper and embellishments, the picture just gets transformed into a masterpiece. I find it very relaxing to make layout after layout.

What inspires me the most is probably my photos!!!!!!!!!! What I scrap on a day will depend on my mood and what I feel like scrapbooking. It will also depend whether I have bought new paper from my favourite ranges as to what I scrap. I am DEFINITELY one of those that firstly, have enough paper at home to open my own shop and secondly, that take pictures to match the paper I have bought."

Today we want to tell you a little more you about our next very talented designer - Lynette Jacobs.

"Hello, my name is Lynette Jacobs. I live in Port Elizabeth on the east coast of South Africa. I have been married to Kobus for the past 33 years and we have three grown children. We have been blessed with four beautiful grandchildren (and another two that will be born in the first part of this year)…who are also the subject of most of my scrapping.

My husband and I founded a non-profit organization that provides for the needs of nearly 580 homeless and poor people whom we house at the Mission. This work is very stressful and emotional and scrapbooking provides me with much needed stress-relief. I started scrapbooking seven years ago and was instantly hooked. I love that my hobby can give me so much pleasure and at the same time create a legacy for my children and grandchildren.

Until recently I preferred doing only layouts that can be slipped into my albums. I have now developed a love for mini albums as gifts to my love ones and also love making handmade cards."

Welcome to Scrap Africa and Our Giveaway

Hello everyone!

We are very excited to welcome you at our brand new challenge blog Scrap Africa!

Why did we start this blog? Simply because we want to showcase and celebrate the creative talent that we have in our beautiful land. At the same time we want to share it with the rest of the world and be inspired by others. While we will focus on scrapbooking in Southern Africa we hope that our challenges will attract scrappers from different parts of the world.

This is how it will work.

Every 2 weeks on Thursdays we will publish a new challenge for you. You will have 3 weeks to complete it. We will alternate sketch challenges for lay-outs with theme challenges. For our theme challenges you can create any kind of scrap object - it can be a lay-out, a card or an altered object as long as you follow the requirements of the challenge.

You can combine our challenges with challenges from other blogs.

Only make sure that you do not combine similar challenges together. You also cannot take part in two challenges on our blog with the same project (our challenges will overlap and therefore you cannot for example make a lay-out using our sketch and then enter same lay-out into the theme challenge on Scrap Africa).

Our design team will choose the best entries which we will feature on Scrap Africa blog. We will also choose someone to be our guest designer for one of the challenges.

We plan to have sponsors for our challenges. After every two challenges (a sketch and a theme challenge) we will randomly draw the prize winner among the participants.

We think that this new venture is something worth celebrating. And what is a celebration without a gift?

Copy the picture from this post and post it on your blog or in any other internet community.Tell your friends about Scrap Africa and our give-away. I have been scrapbooking for the last 8 years, thanks to my daughter, who was invited by her friend to
a scrapbooking workshop!! If it wasn’t for that, who knows how much longer it would have taken me to discover scrapbooking, but boy I am so glad I did as I eat, drink and breathe scrapbooking!!!

I am a Durban-based scrapbooker, having lived here for the last 6 years, after escaping Zimbabwe, where
I was born and raised.

I have my own blog Scrap Addict where I share my love of scrapbooking and photography. I have been lucky enough to have been published in Creating Keepsakes magazine and Scrap Street Ezine as well as in a sketch book, “Working with Sketches” available online from Creative Scrappers.

I design for several international challenge blogs, as Once Upon a Sketch, Bird is the Word and Sketchabilities. I work with products sent to me by Imaginarium Designs (an Australian chipboard company). I also work for “Scrapbook Kits with a Difference” – An Adelaide-based online scrapbook Page kit club,

designing layouts and cards for them each month and last but not least for a great little kit club in America called 3 Scrappy Boys, that sends me the latest and greatest products to design with. If you visit me at my blog you will see links in my sidebar to all these awesome organisations!

"I loved working with Evgenia’s sketch and flipped it over, added a couple of portrait-orientation photos

in place of the 3 landscape ones & used some gorgeous American Crafts “Campy Trails” papers

to create this layout about my 2 oldest kids. I also used some Studio Calico mists and a

Crafter’s Workshop Chicken Wire stencil. Most importantly I have used a gorgeous chipboard fence

From FABSCRAPS, a South African based company, that is sponsoring Scrap Africa this month!

I love to add “artiness” to my pages by playing with paints, mists, masks and stencils & also strive

to include meaningful journaling to everything I do as well."

Our next guest designer is extremely talented and creative Cheryl Boglioli

Cheryl Boglioli is a Florida native, wife, and mother of one teenage daughter. She studied Graphic Design at the Florida School of Commercial Art in Tampa, Florida and earned a degree in Business Management. Cheryl is a paper crafter, mixed media artist, and educator and even dabbles in a little photography.. She loves to stay on the cutting edge of new products, techniques, and technology as it pertains to the crafting industry. Cheryl has spent the last few years creating an artistic resume. Several of her designs have been published and she has gathered quite a following. She achieved CHA Designer Member status in 2011. Cheryl is a certified Tattered Angels Educator and currently on the Helmar USA Design Team. Cheryl is available to travel and teach at your local scrapbook store or event.

Cheryl flipped the sketch and turned it into a mixed media canvas rather than a photo layout.

She used FabScraps papers Heritage Scrips & Burlesque News as well as metal embellishments. The metal on the bottom of the birdcage and a metal square cut in half for the bottom corners of the canvas are also from Fabscraps.

Lynette says: "I love the background paper that I used for this layout. It is called Shabby Chic Stitched...I teamed it with the red and cream dotted classic Black Birds paper. The photo's are of my grandson and son on the tractor at their small holding. He insists on helping daddy and as you can see it is hard work for such a small little boy;-)"

Hi everyone!! My name is Cathy and I’m a scrap-booking addict of epic proportions but then again I think most of us fall into that category. I live in a little sea-side village off the east coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa. Together, my husband and I run our own construction company. I do the admin and he is out in the field. I would love to say that I share my life with my hubby and seven dogs but the fact that he is never at home and we only see one another once every three months or so means that I actually share my life with my dogs who are my constant companions and I cannot even begin to imagine my life without them. So, I guess I will edit this once he is home again on a permanent basis .. lol!

I have a beautiful daughter who is now 24 and whom I am very proud of and love dearly .. just wish she wasn’t so camera-shy! I can’t wait to be a grandmother. She has her own ideas about that though. I am also godmother to little Isabella, my niece whom I also love to bits and she is my favorite scrapping subject seeing as you can chase my daughter into the sea with a camera. I also love scrapping my pets as their time with us is so short and I like to preserve as many memories as I can of them whilst they are still with me.

Whilst scrapping is my number one hobby, I am also an avid reader and I devour one book after the other. I love my kindle and buying books is seriously starting to compete with my scrap-booking budget. Do I have a budget?? Well, that is debatable. I also enjoy taking long walks with my dogs .. that would be one dog at a time. They each get a turn on a daily basis or else it would be a case of them taking me for a walk.

I really do enjoy the simple pleasures in life and one of my greatest pleasures have to be a long hot bath at the end of the day and then getting into my bed. I have a thing for crisp, white cotton sheets that smell like sunshine and summer and I love peanut butter sandwiches made with home made bread. I’m addicted to coffee and drink far too much of it but it also helps to keep me awake a little longer at night which means I can read a little while longer. I love the smell of the earth after the rain. I love the exuberant way my dogs greet me every morning and the new challenges brought on by every new day. I love the cry of a fish eagle and I love it when the swallows return to their little nest on my patio every year. I am passionate about wild life and animals in every respect and I love the bushveld and camping. I am also fiercely protective of my own personal space and I am very comfortable with my own company. So all in all one could say that I am a happy individual and one last thing .. I LOVE happy endings and everything and anything that is orange-flavoured!

I am extremely honoured to be part of Scrap Africa’s DT and am loving every minute of it and am very proud of the talented ladies who form part of the team and again, last but not least .. thank you to Svetlana and Evgenia for taking the iniative and starting our very own proudly South African blog.

Today we want to introduce you to Jowilna Nolte. No doubt that her name is very well known among South African crafters and scrapbookers.

Here is what Jowilna has to say:

"I have been in the industry for 15 years and still loving it. From working in retail and wholesale and importing handmade paper and rubber stamps. I started as a cardmaker and stamper but my love for photography quickly took me into the field on scrapbooking which seems to consume my life at this stage.

I have worked in publishing craft magazines for the past 9 years and have 2 books published and currently working on a third.

I teach scrapbooking and cardmaking classes weekly in Gauteng and have some other creative journeys planned for the coming year.

I design for various manufacturing companies and design teams of which this one (Scrap Africa) is a really special project.

I look forward to sharing my ideas with you."

Greetings to all our friends!

Today we will continue introduсing our team to you. Now it is Svetlana's turn.

Hello everyone! My name is Svetlana Austin. I am a Russian girl who ended up living in hot South Africa for the last 10 years. I met my husband while he was doing mission work in Russia. We have 2 beautiful sons who keep us busy and fill our lives with sun-shine (not that we have lack of it in the northern part of the country).

I was always creative. I tried many different crafts but once I was introduced to scrapbooking by my friend I never stopped. It was almost 8 years ago.

I love to create lay-outs about my little boys. My aim is to reflect their personalities through my work. I love to make real boy’s lay-outs full of colors and details. I like to use paint and sprays in my projects.

I also like to make very romantic and feminine lay-outs about myself or about my girl-friends. It allows me to express the stuff that I like.

My scrapbooking style is always determined by photographs I use and what kind of story I would like to tell through my project.

I also like to do alter scrap. Sometimes it is objects that are specially designed for it, sometimes I just see something in a shop and feel that it needs some TLC (for example this jewelry hanger I bought in Clicks)

I designed for a few challenge blogs – Russian and international. At the moment I am part of Kaisercraft design team.

Hello everyone!

Sorry for being quite during the past week. We will not give you any excuses on it but will only say that life can be very unpredictable so enjoy every moment and cherish your loved ones ♥

Time came for our new (the first one!) challenge and here it is.

Because we wanted that our blog must be not just another scrapbooking challenge blog but a scrapbooking challenge blog with true African flavor our first challenge is dedicated to... Africa off course! Let us celebrate this amazing beautiful land.

You can create any kind of scrapbooking project - a lay-out, a card or an altered object - whatever you are inspired to make. The only requirements we have it must have the word "Africa" (or "African") in it (or on it) or it must look African and make people think of Africa when they look at it.

You don't need to live in Africa to take part in this challenge. May be you even haven’t been to Africa but we all can dream!

Let's see what we prepared for your inspiration for this challenge.

Many of you are familiar with the work of our guest designer but not many would know about her African connections. Please give warm welcome to...

Agnieszka Bellaidea

Here is what Agnieszka shared with us:
My name is Agnieszka but in the scrapbooking world I go by Bellaidea.
Together with my husband - I'm still dating him - we're taking care of our two treasures - a Girl and a Boy.
I love traveling, taking photos, oranges and African bush aroma, cheesecake with real vanilla, Pavlova dessert, old; books, pictures and houses, doilies, trips with friends to Italy, evenings by the fireplace, milk chocolate from Lindl, mystery perfumes, nut ice-creams, reading books to my children(no matter they can read by themselves), audiobooks during long distance drives , praising people for their talent and creativity and meeting with other nice ladies for a cup of coffee.
My favorite place to spend great time is Kruger Park and Zimbali in South Africa.
I scrapbook for many reasons-to preserve memories, to make my kids remember I always care about them, to have MY time when I need it, to keep in touch with all my scrap-friend all over the work. My style is ecletic , part of romantic, touch of whimsy, lace, chipbords, doillies, torned corners, fussy cutting etc but never forget the most important is the photo and a story. Sometimes I hide my journaling when it`s very personal...

For this mini album Evgenia mostly used Kaisercraft goodies, masking, misting and stamping techniques. The size of this album is 10 by 15 cm.

Cathy

Cathy made an altered caddy with an African flavor. In her project she wanted to use the colors that mostly remind her of Africa. Blue African Sky, orange African sunsets, green African forests and hills and yellow African deserts.

Jowilna

Jowilna used a little quiche pan for her project. She layered it with African themed papers with texture to build it up. Then she matted a photo of a giraffe taken on a game farm onto brown card stock and added some "bling" around the edges. The rest of the 'pan' was filled with porcupine quills that she simply cut down using scissors and glued them inside in a totally random fashion. A fun decorative element and can even be used as a paper weight in an African themed decor setting.

Jeaunes made this card using the BoBunny range. She says: "What I liked the most about this range were all the stickers, especially the one with the lion paws and the row of animals at the bottom of the card. It reminds me of the Lion King :-)"

Lynette Jacobs

Lynette made this simple layout with Bazzill card stock, some handmade papers, added some texture with burlap and dried leaves. She framed the "Explore" title sewing African beads around it...that took a bit of time but was totally worth it!

Hello all! My name is Evgenia Petzer, I am 27 years old, I was born and raised in Russia, but now we live in South Africa, Gauteng, Benoni.

I am a mom to a 3 year old boy and a photographer, with lots of plans in scrapbooking as well.

I started scrapbooking about 4 years ago and never stopped since.

Currently I design for Pencillines and a few manufactures - Tattered Angels, Melissa Frances, UHK and Chic Tags. I am also planning to start giving classes this year.

Here is what Kim has to say:

"Hi everybody! I’m so happy to be guesting for Scrap Africa. It is fantastic to hear of new exciting scrapping ventures emerging from within the super talent we have here in South Africa. I just know you are going to love these challenges.

I’ve been scrapping for 6 years after being invited to a scrapping 'crop'. I admit I was nervous that day, didn't have the foggiest idea what a 'crop' was. I was pleasantly surprised that beyond the cute products & great coffee was a community of super friendly, creative ladies, many of whom I am still good friends with today. Over the years I have been privileged to design for some fabulous scrapbooking manufacturers & magazines. Currently I am working with Creating Keepsakes magazine as part of their Dream Team for the third year, Fancy Pants Designs for two years & this is my fourth year designing for Cocoa Daisy kits. For me scrapbooking embraces all the things I find beautiful: color, texture, layering & stitching and most importantly helps me capture my life & thoughts in a medium I love.

I am excited to share a page with you today using this fabulous sketch, together with the new Love Story line from Fancy Pants Designs."

"My name is Nadia Cannizzo, and I live in Sydney Australia. I was born and raised in Greece and moved to Australia when I was 11. I am a mummy to 2, much loved and much wanted little girls and I have been married to my husband for the last 12 years. I am a Primary School teacher and have been teaching for about 11 years. I have been scrapping/paper-crafting officially for just under 2 years now and in March of 2011 I started my own challenge blog called Once Upon A...Sketch. At present I am on the Design Team for an Australian online store called Handmade By Suzanne. I am SO excited to be here and THANK YOU so very much for inviting me."

To brighten up the papers Svetlana used the doodling technique on this lay-out. Simply use a black pen to outline the paper details on your lay-out. It helps to bring some contrast and makes it more personal.

In the place of the second photograph Cathy added a journaling card.

Jowilna Nolte

Jowilna turned the original sketch into a double page lay-out by repeating the left side on the right but using a single photograph. She made the patterned paper from glossy smooth card-stock and distress stains which gives a truly amazing effect. The stars is a resist technique using embossing and distress stains along with perfect pearls mists.
