Challenge no.25 - Recycling

Hello Everyone

We are already 15 days into the year and we hope that 2014 has been good so far.

We have a fabulous new challenge today and it is about recycling. You need to use at least one recycled item on your project. Create a card, layout or altered piece, that has a recycled item and please tell us what that item is.

This challenge is hosted by the really creative Billie-Jean.

She also has this super little prize up for grabs.

So to inspire you, we have some guest designers.

Guest Designer Badge

First up is Leila Cassimira
who is a previous TOP 3.

Leila Cardoso

Leila created a super and fresh page.

Aren't these vibrant colours and the little splashes just fabulous?!
So beautiful and gorgeous!
Leila used a clothing tag as her recycled item.

Next we have Daria

[DSC02178.JPG]

who was also a TOP 3, and she kindly created this project for us too.

This is so very clever and so very useful and beautiful, all at the same time!
Love this little holder! Daria used a paper ice-cream bucket and an old hockey sock.

Thanks so much Leila and Daria for your super projects! Please pop along to their blogs, you will be sure to find more eye candy and fabulosity!!!! ;-)

As always we have some super projects from the Design Team and I can assure you they will certainly "wow" you.

I used drinking straws and I cut the hot air balloons out of a Pumpkin Patch bag.

I use an egg card box box to create these flowers. I have also added some close up snippets of the flowers. I will post this on my blog when I get back from holiday if there is interest.

Recycling a bit of Christmas for this one: the cardboard came from a Christmas package delivered recently and the netting you can see came from a bag of Christmas chocolates the girls had in their stocking!!

I recycled a clothing tag

and a lollipop stick

My background page is a page from an old calendar (year 2000) and the leaves, butterfly, book and chair are fussy cut bits from this calendar too.

I recycled a plain, brown clipboard!

My recycled objects are the typewriter tag from some stationery, the ribbon from a Christmas gift and the stars which were cut and inked from a Christmas Bob Bon.  The photo shows a bracelet which is made from old typewriter keys and I photographed it on a table cloth made by my Mother when she was a young girl.   The journalling is tucked behind the photo and it reads:-

A few weeks before Christmas, we flew interstate to visit our youngest son and his partner.  One balmy afternoon, we wandered through a local craft market admiring the hand made jewellery.  Sarah and I stopped to admire some bracelets fashioned from old typewriter keys and I explained that I’d learned to type on an old “Underwood” typewriter with very similar keys.  We strolled on and when she was engrossed in something else, I ducked back and bought the bracelet for her Christmas gift.  On Christmas day, imagine my surprise to open my gift from her, which revealed a bracelet of typewriter keys from the same stall.  She had asked our Son to distract me, while she whizzed back and  bought one for me as well. Neither of us was aware of what the other one was doing. Needless to say, we both love our bracelets.

Ия (Iya)
(Iya is also a new Design Team member and you will get to meet her shortly)

I used an old book...

and carton boxes.

i used this large tag from new bedding that i bought to create this tag - the care instructions will be good advise for a friend and a fun twist to add to her gift

I cut a 12x12 square from a cardboard box and set about distressing it to form the background for my page.
Here is a close up of the one corner of the page.

Out for Publication

I've kept and used the red bow (and bell) from the chocolate bunny on my layout. :)

I used Prima packaging, Gauze swab, Plastic vegetable bag and clothing tag.

Prima packaging and hanger from socks that I bought.

The black and sequence embellishments were from an Alice Band...

I used a clothing tag for my recycled item.

(Tanya is one of our new Design Team members, I will introduce her properly in a little while! ;-))

This  metal  butterfly - my wedding decoration. I broke it into pieces and decorated my page with parts of it!

The heart was from a box that I cut up and covered with the glitter paper, the tag is a clothing tag from Poetry that I stamped on, the ribbon is from a T-shirt that I bought (to hang it up with) and the black banners are from Prima Flower packaging..

Well we hope you are inspired by our projects!

In addition to Billie-Jean's prize shown above, there are these yummy goodies up for grabs!

You have until the 31st January to upload your projects!
We really look forward to seeing your creations and all those recycled goodies!

Meet our new DT Members - Erica Houghton and Helen Wallace

Hello Everyone

We have such exciting news to share with you! We have 2 new Design Team Members.
These 2 ladies are really so very talented and I am personally so thrilled that they have joined our team.

So firstly a HUGE welcome to Erica Houghton.

Here is what Erica had to tell us about herself.

Hi!!
My name is Erica Houghton. My husband, Ben, and I live outside of Washington DC in Stone Ridge, Virginia. When I’m not working or sitting in traffic :) you can find me in my scrapbook room creating. I’m addicted to patterned paper so I’ve resorted to using lots of layers in order to use all of the wonderful papers that come in each collection. I never feel my pages are complete until I’ve added flowers, machine stitching, and usually LOTS of bling (I love glitter, rhinestones, and anything else that has glitz, glamour and a lot of sparkle). I mostly make 12x12 layouts but have expanded my interest into card and tag making, along with a mini album every now and then.

I am on the DT at Sketchabilities and Flying Unicorn, and am very excited to be joining Scrap Africa! You can find me at http://ericahoughton.blogspot.com/or https://www.facebook.com/erica.houghton8, so be sure to pop over and say ‘hello’.

To give you a little taste of Erica's work, have a look at these fabulous projects.

Please pop over to Erica's blog and see all the wonderful eye candy! ;-)

Secondly, a BIG BIG welcome to Helen Wallace.

[DSC_Avatar.jpg]

Hi, I’m Helen and I live in Adelaide, South Australia with my husband, who is my best friend and soul mate.  I have three adult sons and four grand children; almost always the subjects of my scrapping. I love to travel, take photographs, eat good food and drink wonderful wine.
I have been scrap booking for quite a few years when I decided to make an album for our oldest son’s birthday.  Little did I know that it would become a daily obsession and require a studio to house all my stash.
It’s important to me to pass on the stories of a different era, to put flesh on the bones of my ancestors so they are much more than just a stern black and white image. I want my Grand children to know how different life was when I grew up and the sacrifices their Great Grandparent made to keep food on the table.
I love everything about scrap booking.  The photos and papers, the card stock, the ribbons, the buttons and trims, the mists, paints and stencils.  I love the "playing" which allows my inner child to be creative.  I love getting messy and experimenting with new techniques  never quite knowing what might evolve.
I want my boys to know that their "old cheese" (moi) was once young and gorgeous too; that life is fleeting, so they should find time in each day to nurture their spirits.  I’ve learned to take better photographs to capture the spirit of our grand children. Their stories are recorded so they will know how much they are loved and enjoyed by their grandparents.
Scrap booking fills a hole in my heart that I didn’t know was there.
Here is some of what we can look forward to ;-)))
Helen is an amazing story teller and I know that I can certainly learn from her! ;-)
So welcome Erica and Helen, we really look forward to working with you and seeing all the wonderful projects you create!
pssssssst...... we will be back very soon with some more exciting news! ;-)
